A deep-sea cyborg emerges from the deepest realms of the sea, rooted to a bedrock pedestal and bearing two mutated heads with diving helmets. Whether malevolent or benevolent, this androgynous messenger from a new species comes to us from a different marine temporality. Standing at the edge of the East Sea, the more-than-human and wateriness come together in this biomorphic figure, opening up ideas of cyberpunk and future worlds in which the human body has evolved/devolved into a post-human form. The stainless steel work reflects and warps the human and non-human environments around it, transforming the sculpture into a site that is liquid and infinitely evolving. Trance is a mesmerizing assemblage that transcends the critical boundaries of gender and sexual identity, questioning the ontological limits of post-humanness.
