Hair and its hereditary characteristics act as the primary material and instigation in this work by Jin Sun Lee. <The DNA Park>, comprises trees and rocks made with hair collected from a pop-up hair salon performance held at Gangsongjeong Park in Ilgwang by Lee and a hair salon in Gijang. It abruptly intervenes in this space usually used for leisure and relaxation, creating a dissonant oasis wherein various emotional and material frictions arise. Through this work, Lee considers how hair becomes an abject object when it leaves our living bodies, and yet it carries traces of our genetic markers even when configured into the inorganic forms as she makes here. <The DNA Park> interrogates the porous boundaries between essentialised ideas of beauty and disgust, human and non-human, living and dead.
