- Holds the First Temporary Board of Directors for Discussions on the 24th of Last Month -

  Busan Biennale Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as "the committee”) held a temporary board of directors to discuss reorganization and operational improvement to take action to reform the organizational operations.

  On March 24th, the directors and auditors of Busan Biennale have discussed on the reorganization and the plans for operational improvement at the first temporary board of directors for the year 2014 held at the Novotel Ambassador of Haeundae. At the recent meeting, various opinions on the organization of a system improvement committee for reorganization and the discussions related to the nomination of artistic director of Busan Biennale 2014 while exchanging detailed discussions such as setting up the objectives for the promotion of these plans.

  First of all, the participants have proposed on the organization of a system improvement committee for rational reorganization and operation plan for the trend of contemporary art and the opening of biennale as plans for reorganization and operational improvement. The system improvement committee will have the outsiders as well as the Busan Biennale directors participate to research comprehensive plans for the long-term development of organization in objective and macroscopic perspectives. The system improvement committee to be organized is planning to propose the detailed matters including the improvement methods after going over the overall reorganization and operation plan of Busan Biennale including reorganization, appointment of executive director and artistic director, organization method of operation committee, classification on the rights and responsibilities of the board of directors and the operation committee along with other details related to reorganization and operations from April to December. The committee is planning an innovative improvement of organizational operations such as gathering opinions by opening up a public hearing and going over the plans for actual application through the board of directors on this basis.

  Meanwhile, the board of directors has recommended reorganizing the present operating committee as a self improvement plan related to the recent situation concerning the artistic director nomination of Busan Biennale 2014 while the committee is currently going over reorganization based on the experts of various fields. Prior to this, the executive director of the committee Kwang Su Oh had officially sent an intention of apology on the recent controversy by posting a word of apology on the official homepage of Busan Biennale, Facebook and Twitter on the 27th of last month.

  From now on, the committee is planning to take action in the actual improvement of organizational operations such as organizing a system improvement committee and reorganizing the operating committee based on the details discussed in the recent temporary board of directors.

  Meanwhile, the artistic director Olivier Kaeppelin of Busan Biennale 2014 has conducted a pre-investigation on the regional fine art after looking around the cultural areas of the region by visiting Busan in March while planning to give impetus to the formulation of exhibition along with the official investigation of local artists and artworks through a long-term stay by visiting Busan again on the coming April 28th.
