Inscribed on the surfaces of restaurants and cafes along the Ilgwang beach strand, <Strategies of Dissolution> creates a theatre of different bodies of water in five text panels. Various waters speak to one another about the violence and histories they carry and are made to carry by colonial and capitalist institutions, strategising to dissolve the borders humans construct among and through them. For Sea Art Festival 2021, Kim voices the agencies of water in the Mediterranean Sea, referring to how EU countries scapegoat the sea for the deaths of drowned refugees, when these tragedies are in fact a result of tyrannical border-control policies. This work also alludes to the Kori Nuclear Power Plant near Ilgwang Village, which led to high levels of cancerous toxins in the water supplied to local residents.
