Lightwaves

Comprising over 200 specially-designed flexible structures of varying heights made from dichroic film panels, <Lightwaves> forms a perpetually changing work that morphs with the slightest shift in visual perspective, movement, or light source. Each ‘paddle’ element casts two polychromatic shadows onto the sand, drenching this site and those walking through it, in a kaleidoscopic ocean of light and colour on Ilgwang Beach. Visitors navigate this porous space, changing the refractions of light as their bodies interact with the installation, even as their own bodies become sites of colourful shadows from the paddles. The wave-like design of the entire installation is intentionally never fully perceptible to the viewer, so that they may immerse themselves into the fluid space rather than comprehend the whole, much like the vast expanse of the oceans.
