Drawing from Dr Ian Stevenson’s 1997 book, <REINCARNATION AND BIOLOGY: The Etiology of Birthmarks> based on fieldwork interviews conducted across Asia, Turkey, Lebanon, Alaska, and Africa, <For the Otherwise Unaccounted> maps the testimonies of 17 people who believe they have been reincarnated. Spread across four rooms in the indoor site for Sea Art Festival 2021, Hamdan’s prints display birthmarks from their bodies, which act as evidence for their claims. These corporeal traces often correspond to records of the physical site of death or trauma of the  people they were in their previous lives. This work brings together an unlikely assemblage of human histories across disparate geographies and time-periods, especially those who have lived at the margins of societal systems.
