Cellular Sway

Intertwined around the Ilgwang riverbank, <Cellular Sway> assembles within the human architecture in the Festival site. AN Jae Kuk weaves a particularly resilient kind of fishing line used to catch whales and tuna into a form that brings to mind the anemones found in the East Sea which the artist often ate when he lived in Ilgwang. This work is the crystallization of the energy of the material and An’s intensive human labor, as this fishing line is extremely difficult to shape. The material catches the sunlight, reflects the water beneath it and sways in the wind, creating images reminiscent of cells floating in the air, and furthermore, an infinitely expanded space: a gigantic living organism that breathes from within.
