KIM Kyunghwa
b. 1969, Jinju, South Korea
Lives and practices in Busan, South Korea
KIM Kyunghwa’s work revolves around the complex interrelations among conditions of otherness, temporality, alienation, and urbanism. Often using discarded or neglected materials, she creates large-scale installations that portray non-anthropocentric landscapes and fabulistic narratives, evoking questions of labor, beauty and systemic inequality. Kim’s deeply empathetic practice is tethered to communities and their histories, be they human or non-human.
