PARK Sangho recognizes city as a space which is open to superficial, physical, psychological and structural interpretation. His varied approaches explore the elements which enable the recognition of urban space. City exists at any time and everywhere as a surrounding of our contemporary environment, which we recognize as ‘reality,’ an environment built up of common symbols. However, there lies a deviation between the act of recognizing city and its actual reality, as memories and images, which are fixated, remains subjective to each individual. PARK reflects on this imaginary aspect of the cityscape, the ‘made-up reality.’
The works appear as fragmented structures from the theatre, however the formative elements of each unit holds its own presence of being. The standpoint of PARK allows viewers to re-examine the familiar cityscape. Perhaps the scenery we recognize through PARK’s work is our typical image of a contemporary city.
