This piece, "You Are Here", celebrates the people and environment of Songdo. It is an interactive piece to be comprised of a double sided panel to be installed on the beach; one side, a mirror facing the ocean, on the other, a full bleed photo of the same ocean from the same vantage point.
On the photo side, the mounted full-bleed photograph of the beach and ocean in actual size plays with the idea of reality versus non-reality, but also talks about memory. The memory of the beach of an 80 year old resident versus the memory of an 11 year old. The natural landscape itself does not change, but events surrounding the memory may alter the truth.
On the mirrored side, which faces the ocean, it will reflect the people coming and going, and also the viewer in context now with the nature itself, as opposed to the static image of the same nature which they have just viewed on the opposite side.
It compels us to think about whether or not our narcissism has a legitimate place in nature, and how looking into ourselves and our environment shape our identity.
