Sand Tank

Due to overdevelopment, pollution, and changing climatic conditions beaches have eroded and sand has become scarce. ‘Sand Tank’ was created with the hope of replenishing Songdo beach, whose sand levels are bound to decline further. The lighting, sound element and mechanical devices installed in and around the work give ‘Sand Tank’ the air of an industrial site or factory, an effect further heightened at night with the use of electric lights. An oscillating device installed within the tank vibrates at regular intervals, pouring a set amount of sand from the water tank onto the beach.
